Wow who knew getting down to this business of making and selling art would be such a lot of work!
So far I've posted a few images of my work but that's it, so many more to go and I hear blogging is a must do too, so here we go!
It's just a little over a year since I opened myself up to making art - it's something that had been bottled up inside of me - for decades - literally! Sneaking out every few years to paint a cottage woodbox here, a bunch of leeks there, wild mushrooms. Just crazy stuff escaping to canvas from my old brushes and paints. Sketching was always a thing, but it was never enough.
Want to hear a funny story? I retired 2 and a half years ago and for the first year I knew I wanted to do this, but I was just stuck! Couldn't do a darned thing, maybe I was afraid it was gone, that my love of art wasn't enough, that the skills I had acquired were now gone or maybe things had changed so much that nothing would work for me. So, after sitting on my duff for a year, and out of desperation, I contacted a dear friend of my sister's who is a medium and my dad talked to me! He too was a frustrated artist - he died young and never really exercised his gift. His message to me was simple..."You are a perfectionist, if you want perfection, go paint a wall! Just get started!!" And so I did.
And here I am now, dozens of paintings under my belt and more each day, many wonderful workshops behind me and 2 lessons a week for the past year. I think I jumped in with both feet! Got all wet and got lots of paint on canvas and it's just the beginning.
I'm now getting ready for 3 shows - and boy, that's a lot of work! But more about that another day.
Cheerio
